The Animal Control & Education Commission approves or disapproves all applications for permits for animals. The Commission has the power to revoke licenses and permits as set forth by ordinance. A decision to disapprove any license or revoke any license may be appealed to the Commission which shall have final authority over issuance, denial or revocation of any animal license. Any restrictions, rules or regulations adopted by the Commission must be reviewed and approved by the Evansville City Council. If the Commission finds that the nature of a particular animal or area in which it is kept may in any way endanger the public health, safety, or welfare, it may impose conditions on a license or permit. Breach of those conditions shall be cause for revocation of the license and a violation of the ordinance. The Commission shall inspect the Animal Care and Control Shelter at any time during business hours. The Superintendent of the Animal Care and Control shelter also attends all Commission meetings.
