In 2012 and 2013, the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility is planning what will be the largest capital improvement project in Evansville's history — Renew Evansville. Below are key milestones in Renew Evansville's development.
November 2010
The City of Evansville and Evansville Water and Sewer Utility signed the consent decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Justice and State of Indiana.
December 2010
First draft of the overflow response plan was submitted.
Public and Regulatory Participation Plan was completed.
May 2011
Capacity, management, operations and management program 2.0 was submitted.
Second draft of the overflow response plan was completed.
June 2011
Federal district court approved the November 2010 consent decree.
September 2011
Semi-annual report was submitted.
November 2011
Updated combined sewer overflow plan was completed.
Complete trunk sewer survey and condition assessment was submitted.
Initial system characterization and hydraulic model documentation were completed.
February 2012
Financial capability analysis was completed.
March 2012
Semi-annual report was submitted.
Sanitary sewer analysis report, including sanitary sewer evaluation study and capacity assessment, was submitted.
April 2012
Public participation program was launched, including project website, Citizens Advisory Committee and media relations.
July 2012
Revised operations at wastewater treatment plants were implemented to ensure that the plants operate at their maximum capacities and continue to treat as much wet weather flow as possible.
The draft integrated overflow control plan (IOCP) was submitted, including:
- Combined sewer and sanitary sewer capacity alternatives analysis
- Long term control plan alternatives analysis
- Sewer system remedial measures plan analysis
- Facility plans for wastewater treatment plants
- Implementation schedules for medial measures and long term control plan
November 2012
U.S. EPA and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management approve the Utility's request for a six month extension from Nov. 30, 2012, to May 31, 2013, to submit the final IOCP.
May 2013
Final integrated overflow control plan to be submitted to federal and state regulators for approval.
2014
Construction is expected to begin.
