The Department of Parks & Recreation coordinates and oversees the operation of 65 parks and 21 SJ Sunset 02recreational facilities encompassing more than 2,500 acres of land in the City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County, Indiana.  
 

 

The Administrative Offices are located next to the Lobby of the C. K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E. Walnut Street. Shelter House Rentals, and C. K. Newsome Community Center room rentals may be obtained at the Administrative Offices. The Department of Parks & Recreation accepts cash, checks, Visa® & MasterCard® for all rentals.

Zumba!!

Zumba classes will be available at the C. K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E. Walnut Street, next to the Evansville Courier-Press Building.   Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness program and Zumba 2is fun for all ages and skill levels.  The music is a combination of Latin-American with international and pop.  The steps are easy to learn and every class is a great aerobic workout that feels like a party. You don’t have to know how to dance; just move your body and follow the leader.

 

Classes are only $4.00 and are held on Tuesday & Thursday from 5:30pm – 6:30pm.  Licensed Zumba instructor, Jennifer Stilwell Zumba 1will be happy to show you the fun you will have as you “Join the Party!”

Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage - Open
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the final phase of the Industrial Corridor for the Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage.  Now the Greenway Passage spans 6.75 miles from the Heidelbach Canoe Launch to Sunrise Park.  Mayor Winnecke said, “The Ribbon Cutting 002Greenway Passage is a wonderful contribution to the Department of Parks & Recreation. The trail provides a beautiful corridor for users to walk, jog or ride their bikes from the Downtown to the near North Side.” Construction on Phase 4 started in April 2012.  The total cost of Phase 4 was nearly $1.4 million, with more than $1 million from Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds and $311,636 in Riverboat funds.

   Disc Golf

Evansville is fortunate to feature two disc golf courses.  Mesker Park Disc Golf, located in Mesker Mesker Disc Golf 001Park, on Evansville’s west-side.  The 18 hole-course features moderately hilly and heavy wooded terrain with a rating of 4.05 and the course length is 5862 feet.

The Woodmere Disc Golf Course located at the State Hospital on Evansville’s east-side.  Disc Golf Hole FadingWoodmere features 18 holes with a rating of 3.60 and a length of 6,022 feet.   Disc Golf is a favorite for all ages and abilities
