The goal of the Public Health Nursing Outreach Services is to work in partnership with the community to promote and preserve health and prevent disease.
Services Provided:
Six Registered Nurses and one Community Health Worker carry out this mission by assisting the people of Vanderburgh County in identifying health needs and accessing information and resources to achieve change. We believe that the very heart of public health nursing is the home visit. We accept referrals for home visitation for any Vanderburgh County resident. It is during the home visit that an assessment of the client and/or family needs can be made and appropriate referrals to community agencies made. It is also in the home where we can affect change by helping our clients of all ages believe in themselves and their ability to make good choices. We feel strongly that families can help themselves to improve their lives. Of course, our visits are FREE.
We specialize in services for pregnant teens and other women in high-risk pregnancies. We assess their prenatal needs, identify their problems, and refer them to the proper medical providers. We teach infant care techniques, parenting skills, and development and help each woman prepare for a healthy labor and delivery.
