Building Permit Request

Permit Request Methods 

  • Phone in a permit request at (812) 436-7879 or (812) 435-5788.
  • Email an Inspection request.
  • Visit the Building Commission Office.
  • Mail a written request to the Building Commission.
  • Complete an Online Form.

Email Permit Request Process 

A more extensive online permitting system is in development for the Building Commission and will be in full implementation soon. Until the new system is rolled out, email your permit requests to the Building Commission and save time and resources.

Step 1  Send an email.

  • Include the address of the work.
  • Include the scope of the work and other pertinent information (square footage, number of fixtures, etc.).
  •  Include the estimated cost of the work.
  • Include your name, license number and a contact phone number.
  • Attach applicable plans and documents to the email.

Step 2  We will process your request and email the permit to you.

  • We will contact you if additional information is required.

Step 3  Once you receive your permit, mail us a check for the amount of the fee.

  • Reference the application number printed on your permit in the memo line of the check.
  • Don’t forget to send payment; no inspections can be scheduled until payment is received.
