Annual Recreational Open Burning Permits

The Evansville EPA issues Annual Recreational Open Burning Permits to residents who have multiple backyard fires a year and who have not had any complaints, violations, or citations for open burning in the past.

If granted, the annual permit will allow for the resident to have a recreational fire without having to receive prior approval from this office. All permits holders must follow all open burning regulations, abstain from burning during unfavorable weather conditions (e.g. winds about 12 mph), and forgo burning during Air Quality Alerts.

Permits are of no cost to the resident, but they must first call the office and receive verbal approval from EEPA staff and receive no complaints against them during the requested open burning times.

Annual Recreational Open Burning Permit holders are responsible for the renewal of the permit.

New and current permit holders can submit the follow form to eepa@evansville.in.gov or call (812) 435-6145 to receive a permit.
