Position: Visitor Services Attendant  Rate: $7.75 - $8.25 per hour
Department: Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden Part Time


Duties:

The Visitor Services Attendant serves as a frontline, part-time position responsible for assisting visitors on a day-to-day basis to ensure an enjoyable visit. These functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Admissions: operates computerized point-of-sale, handling revenue for ticketing and membership sales, collecting data, processing transactions, answers phones
  • Gift Shop: staffs the gift shop including sales, stocking, straightening, cleaning and maintaining the overall appearance
  • Attractions & Visitor Experiences: staff the Paddleboat rentals, Carousel rides, public Giraffe Feedings, Budgie Aviary & Feedings, Contact Zoo and Tram Tours
  • Birthday host: serves as host for birthday parties including set up, tear down and a tour and conducts animal encounters
  • Facility Rentals & Special Events: Assists with set up and tear down
  • Janitorial: General cleaning and seeing that the parks maintains an overall welcoming appearance, free of trash & litter

*This position will remain posted year-round to create an applicant pool for future openings.

Qualifications:

Position requires good communication skills and must be friendly, neat in appearance and be able to deal with directly with the public in a positive manner. Candidates must be able to work outside in heat and other adverse weather conditions and be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  Computer and retail experience is a plus.  Valid driver’s license is recommended, but not required. Previous experience of handling of animals is helpful.  Must have flexible work schedule and be able to work weekends, holidays and some evenings for special events.  Position may require assisting with training of new employees and supervising volunteers on occasion. This position reports to Visitor Services Assistant or Visitor Services Manager.
