POSITION: Inspector III RATE: $15.00 per hour
DEPARTMENT: Building Commission PART TIME
Duties

Performs inspections of all trades for new and replacement construction projects within the City/County jurisdiction. Interprets and enforces federal, state, and City/County structural building codes and issues citations for non-compliance. Interprets and enforces City/County ordinances. Investigates citizens’ complaints regarding structural code violations. Ensures that all necessary building permits and proper contractor’s licenses are held by individuals performing structural construction. Maintains records of all inspections performed, approvals or citations issued and final outcomes. Provides support for ordinance and policy changes. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must possess a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and City/County structural building codes and the ability to interpret and apply relevant codes. Must possess a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures of the construction trades and must also possess the equivalent of Journeyman level experience in construction trades. Must have the ability to deal with property owners and contractors under conditions of potential conflict. Must possess or obtain within one (1) year of employment a National Certification Program for Construction Code Inspectors 1A Building One and Two Family Certificate. Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
