Evansville to Celebrate Local Pride with Full Day of Events for 812 Day
Evansville will celebrate all things local this Monday, August 12, with a full slate of community events and celebrations in honor of 812 Day, named for the city's area code.
From neighborhood cleanups and park unveilings to coffee, donuts, and giveaways, 812 Day is an invitation to show pride in Evansville and the people who make it home.
“812 Day is about celebrating who we are,” said Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry. “It’s about lifting up the neighborhoods we live in, the parks where we gather, and the local businesses that power our economy. It’s about reminding ourselves, through service, creativity, and joy, that Evansville is a place worth celebrating, and a place we’re proud to call home.”
Events for the day include:
- Block-by-Block Neighborhood Cleanup in Goosetown, 9:00–11:00 a.m. Volunteers will gather at Potter’s Wheel, bringing city services from grass cutting and tree trimming to litter pickup and police and fire outreach to the Goosetown Neighborhood. Gloves and supplies will be provided.
- Park Signage Campaign Launch, 10:30 a.m., featuring the official unveiling of the new Goosetown Park sign. This event kicks off a broader effort by the Parks Foundation and the City of Evansville to refresh and celebrate signage across city parks, recognizing public spaces as vital to community life and neighborhood identity.
- 812 Day Block Party, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., hosted by River City Coffee + Goods and Young & Established. This all-day celebration will include a live DJ, espresso bar, vegan donuts, giveaways, and 812-themed specials, including 20% off all Evansville gear.
Local businesses across the city will also be offering 812 Day specials, with more details to be shared at evansvilleflaggroup.com and on social media throughout the day. Residents are encouraged to use the hashtag #HowDoYou812 to share how they’re celebrating their city.
“Whether you’re grabbing coffee, picking up litter, or simply saying hello to a neighbor, 812 Day is a moment to reflect on what makes Evansville special,” Mayor Terry added. “It’s a celebration of place, people, and pride.”
