Covert Avenue Sewer Rehabilitation Lane Restrictions at Boeke, Vann Intersections

July 9, 2018 - The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility will begin rehabilitation work through its contractor, Layne Inliner, on an existing sewer located along Covert Avenue between S. Boeke Road and S. Walnut Lane on or after Monday, July 9, 2018.

The lining operations will begin near McGary Middle School and progress west towards the Boeke Road intersection.  Traffic on Covert Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction for the necessary closure of the two northern lanes to access existing manholes between S. Taft Avenue and Joyce Avenue.

Eastbound traffic will be merged into the existing southernmost eastbound lane and westbound traffic will be merged into the existing northernmost eastbound lane throughout the work zone.  Left-turn movements through the active work zone will also be heavily restricted or prohibited and most side streets will be restricted to right-turn movements only.

The restricted work zone includes the two major intersections at Boeke Road and at Vann Avenue, which will remain open for the majority of the work duration as practical except when active work is required immediately at those locations.  A detour route will be established due to thru traffic restrictions at each respective intersection and should be expected to last up to two (2) days each.

The bypass pumping operations will also require the closure of three residential streets due to the installation of the piping system along a route separate from the Covert Avenue corridor for the project duration.  These particular closure locations will be S. Villa Drive south of Ravenswood Drive, Taylor Avenue west of S. Villa Drive, and the east end of the alley south of Ravenswood Drive at S. Dexter Avenue.  Overall, the duration of work impacting the entire corridor is anticipated to be eight (8) weeks, weather permitting.
