Mayor's Team at ERM

This week was a good snapshot of the work happening across our city and the people who make it possible.

On Monday, I had the privilege of serving lunch alongside members of my team at the Evansville Rescue Mission. It was a meaningful way to start the week, and a reminder of the importance of serving shoulder-to-shoulder with the people and organizations caring for our neighbors every day.

Wednesday morning, I visited students at Hebron Elementary, where I saw firsthand the energy, curiosity, and promise that exist in our classrooms. Then, that afternoon, I opened my office doors for the annual Holiday Open House, showing appreciation to city employees, board and commission members who serve.

But even during the holidays, the work of city government continues.

On Monday, we announced the recipients of the City of Evansville’s 2025 Opioid Settlement Fund awards. This year, 26 organizations applied for more than $4.7 million in funding; $1 million was available. A review committee evaluated applications using national best practices from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, then made recommendations for funding.

The organizations selected for funding reflect a full, end-to-end approach to addressing addiction, from prevention and youth programming, to treatment, recovery support, and workforce development. They meet people where they are, supporting families, and strengthening the systems that help reduce the long-term impacts of addiction in our community. A full list of recommended recipients is available here.

We also reached an important milestone in our infrastructure work this week. After several months of construction to widen a nearby stormwater drainage culvert, Stockwell Road reopened to traffic on Wednesday. I know construction projects can be disruptive, and I appreciate the patience shown by residents and businesses during this work.

And today, I had the privilege of celebrating with Benthall Brothers as they opened their new facility in Jacobsville. Benthall Brothers has been part of Evansville since 1943, and their decision to reinvest and rebuild in Jacobsville is exactly the kind of commitment that strengthens our neighborhoods and our community. This investment helps grow our economy and reinforces the importance of continued reinvestment in our neighborhoods.

As we head into the holiday weekend, I encourage you to keep an eye on the City’s social media channels. After the holiday, we’ll be sharing a year-end recap highlighting what we’ve accomplished together in 2025 and the momentum we’re carrying into the new year.

In the meantime, I want to wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season. Whether you’re celebrating with family, friends, or taking some well-earned time to rest, I hope this season brings moments of connection and reflection.

Sincerely,

Stephanie
