Little Known Facts about the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office:
We receive calls for approximately 3000 deaths per year and order approximately 180 autopsies per year.
We are used by several other counties in Indiana and Illinois. We charge outside counties a $300.00 morgue fee for the use of our building. The money generated goes directly into the general fund. Often times, outside autopsies are also performed.
There is no cost to families for an autopsy when the death is under investigation by the coroner and it is deemed a coroner's case.
The coroner's office accepts old medications for disposal from individuals. We also accept certain sharps(needles).
We support organ and tissue donation. Over 64 lives can be saved by one organ and tissue donor. Please tell your family your wish for organ and tissue donation.
